1. Wash your face gently and rinse away all the impurities from the skin. Don't scrub too hard. Don't go overboard with the washing, however. Use a clean washcloth, warm water and a mild soap or cleanser. Use an exfoliating cleanser to remove dead skin cells.
2. Get rid of whiteheads
If you must pop a pimple yourself, apply a hot, wet compress until it becomes a whitehead. Try to avoid squeezing or popping it, unless it has an obvious white or yellow top to it. Sterilize a needle in flame or alchohol and then carefully lance it. Squeeze it gently to drain and wash both your hands and the area of the pimple afterwards. Avoid touching your face or affected area with your hands. This will keep the spread of dirt and bacteria down to a minimum.
3. Apply a hot mask to widen pores and loosen dirt and bacteria in acne or take a steam bad. Take a bowl of hot water and a sheet or large cloth. Fill the bowl with hot water and put your head over it, facing the water. Put the cloth over your head to hold in the steam. Don't have the water too hot. Wash your face afterwards.

5. Apply an over-the-counter treatment with benzoyl peroxide in it. Benzoyl peroxide kills the P. acnes bacteria that causes inflammation in a blocked pore. Make sure you apply it around the area with the acne to prevent your acne from spreading.
